Job Description:

In this role, you will ensure our plant operations comply with regulatory requirements as well as our internal policies and codes of practice. You will also provide technical support and leadership to improve overall industrial hygiene awareness, and the continued success of our Edmonton refinery’s operations.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Conduct workplace assessments to identify, quantify and control risk to people, property and equipment
  • Collaborate with the refinery’s safety department on a regular basis and work with regulatory authorities on industrial
  • hygiene matters
    Identify and mitigate chemical, physical, biological, and ergonomics issues
  • Participate as an integral member of the environmental, health, and safety (EH&S) team at the refinery as well as within the larger Suncor industrial hygiene network
  • Provide day-to-day technical advice, expertise and direction to clients in order to ensure compliance to legislative requirements and to both industry and company standards.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of health and safety programs and processes that support the business
  • Maintain and calibrate industrial hygiene equipment regularly

Qualification & Experience:

  • A Bachelor’s degree or a Technical Diploma in Occupational Hygiene/Industrial Hygiene, Health & Safety, Environmental Sciences
  • Experience performing qualitative and quantitative worker exposure assessments, audits and observations of health hazards on a planned and scheduled basis to prevent worker overexposure, and ensure regulatory compliance
  • A strong understanding of due diligence processes in reporting incidents and follow-up actions
  • A registered Occupational Hygiene Technologist (ROHT), holding active registration with designation from the Canadian
  • Registration Board of Occupational Hygienists (CRBOH)
  • Experience in a petroleum, petrochemical or other industrial setting
  • Demonstrated proficiency in exposure assessment methodologies, and control principles
  • Strong technical ability and able to interpret technical reports and conduct risk analysis
  • Strong knowledge of occupational health and safety legislation in Alberta as well as case management knowledge
